Today we will tell you a little about the production of paper for printing. The first writing materials from plant materials appeared in ancient Egypt and China. The finished flexible papyrus scrolls were quite durable – some of them survived into the 21st century.
Nowadays, plant substances with long fibers are used as raw materials. Mixing with water, they form a pliable, homogeneous semi-finished product. It is made from:
• wood – the mass is called cellulose;
• annual plants: a material of increased whiteness is made from hemp or rice mass, from straw and reed it is durable and dense;
• secondary raw materials – waste paper, rags;
• raw materials for the production of special-purpose paper – woolen, asbestos and other fibers.
The main material in the paper industry is wood:
• pine, cedar – soft woods are suitable for the manufacture of packaging materials;
• maple, oak – hardwood base is smooth, but less durable;
• Canadian spruce – a durable but elastic material is made of it;
• chestnut, birch and so on.
The whole barrels are supplied to the mills. There, the bark is removed from them, cut. Next, the raw material is crushed into flour – to fiber-fibrils.
The technology of paper production involves grinding, preparation of the mass, pressing, drying, calendering, winding into rolls. Post-production stages – cutting and packaging.
