History of the first flat plate
The touching story of the first flat plate is the portrayal of the message that the playwright Alois Senefelder (1771–1834) wrote on stone in Munich for his mother, and thus invented “polyautography” – a technique that later became known as “lithography”.
His goal was to make the work of engravers easier and to invent a cheap way to create a printing plate for his own use. In 1797, Alois discovered that in limestone, painted with fat and moistened with water, printing ink remains only on oily areas, and if the stone is constantly wetted (for example, with a rubber roller), then several prints can be made from this stone without using an engraved form.
Senefelder also invented the printing presses needed for the new printing method. Later, he developed the idea of replacing flat stone plates with cylindrical plates, for example, he tried to apply crushed stone to a flexible metal plate. But this problem was solved by the discovery of the zinc plate by Ruddiman Johnston in Edinburgh in 1886. The Americans later replaced zinc with aluminum because they had the raw materials and suitable rolling mills.
By the way, the First experimental printing house in Kharkov has two machines for the output of CTP plates for high-resolution offset sheet-fed printing of the first format in its park of equipment: SCREEN PLATE RITE 8600 AND HEIDELBERG TOPSETTER P102. We are always in touch and continue to print books, magazines, notebooks and calendars for you 24/7 for 2021! Call for advice ☎️
